As a social enterprise, all profits from our commercial legal services to Australia`s leading companies and government agencies fund the provision of pro bono legal services to disadvantaged people in our community through our sister company, Salvos Legal Humanitarian. Salvos Legal is the exclusive property of The Salvation Army Australia. They have a range of employment opportunities across the organization, including community and care professions, senior care, retail, employment services, legal, business and broader support services. By Lauren Martin Luke Geary, outgoing managing partner of Salvos Salvos Legal, says family reasons prompted him to move to Queensland after running The Salvation Army`s sole law firm for 15 years. Salvos Legal surprisingly announced Monday that its founder and managing partner continues as the firm celebrated a milestone of about 20,000 free humanitarian cases for clients in need who otherwise would not have had access to a lawyer, without the firm`s self-funded social enterprise model. Luke Geary, a Salvationist from Auburn, founded Courtyard Legal – the forerunner of Salvos Legal – in 2008, inspired by The Salvation Army founder William Booth`s original plan for a “poor man`s law service,” which he described in his 1890 book In Darkest England and the Way Out. He ran Courtyard Legal on a pro bono basis for seven years before founding Salvos Legal, a groundbreaking law firm where the profits of paying commercial clients are funneled into providing legal services to people who cannot afford a lawyer but are not eligible for legal aid. He says he never intended to leave the business, but family reasons led him to make the decision to move to Brisbane.
