Legal Essentials Certificate

There are legal certificate programs conducted by law schools approved by the American Bar Association. They may have more prestige than a certificate from a program not approved by the ABA. But that may not always be true – or always important. This course teaches students the basics of legal research, types of law books, case books and articles, official and unofficial journalists, computer and practical library research, how to create cases, and the basics of writing a legal memo. Among its concentrations, UB Law School has curricular concentration programs in Affordable Housing Law and Community Economic Development and Social Law and Justice. Certificate programs in state and local government law and education may emphasize the public interest based on the student`s interests. These mergers and the certificate program, as well as other concentrations that are not specifically designed to be in the public interest (e.g., concentration in family law), provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in areas of law that lend themselves to public interest practice. The Business Law seminar provides an overview of the most important business units: companies, LLCs and partnerships, what they are, how they are formed and what legal implications they have.

We will also discuss commercial disputes such as “breaking the corporate veil”, unfair competition, trademarks and trade secrets with an introduction to debtor/creditor issues. A legal certificate can usually be completed in one to three semesters. This often costs less than a full degree. You can choose to earn one or more legal certificates by adding additional courses as part of your master`s program. This course is designed to explore more advanced and specialized approaches to take advantage of legal sources available in the law library and online. Aboriginal Law Certificate Program The special mission of the Aboriginal Law Certificate Program is to prepare students to practice Aboriginal law after graduation by providing rigorous and comprehensive training in Aboriginal law, policy and practice. The program is designed to ensure that certain law students possess specialized expertise – with the knowledge and skills to effectively identify and address Indigenous legal issues, represent Indian nations, and appreciate those nations` unique legal and governance systems. MSU`s Indigenous Law Certificate Program is one of five official certificate programs in the country. Public Interest Certificates/Curriculum refers to a specific program for students who wish to focus on public interest law. Schools with public interest scholarship programs often design a public interest track for recipients. Some law schools issue a certificate in public interest law upon completion of certain courses and/or a certain number of hours. The new Essential Legal Concepts for Business Leaders certificate provides important knowledge for all professionals, but is particularly relevant for middle managers in large companies and senior managers in start-up organisations. The program, developed by ten Cornell law professors and five practicing lawyers, provides comprehensive legal information that students can immediately use in their work — complemented by videos, downloadable tools, projects, and discussions. Students who complete this program receive a certificate from Cornell University and can also earn Professional Continuing Education (CEU) credits.

Course Description Lesson 1: During this first section, students will receive an introduction to legal theory, the legal process, and the nature of legal practice. The discussion focuses on the legal process as well as specific legal terminology. Ethics are also covered. In addition, there are many individual courses on issues of public interest. The College of Law also recommends offering at least 60 hours of pro bono service over the three years of law school. Description of the online program This intensive program is designed for both beginner and experienced secretaries who want to improve their skills and work more effectively in the company. Students will study topics such as: legal terminology; Legal proceedings; Place of jurisdiction and place of jurisdiction; Ethics; written communications, including letters, submissions, discoveries, communications and applications; registration, invoicing and accounting procedures; Time management; management of procedural documents; an overview of common word and data processing programs; legal research; Preparation of memos and citation format. These specialized courses are also offered to students who wish to deepen their knowledge of law and paralegal studies with courses on specialized facets of contemporary law. These courses build on the nationally recognized Paralegal Certificate course, which is a prerequisite for the course©. Less intensive certificate programs can also be helpful. They can give you the opportunity to explore new legal niches and ultimately allow you to realign your career. For example, you could switch from financial advice to estate planning. You can also apply for certificates for specific professions, such as a paralegal.

A law degree is designed for individuals who do not plan to become licensed lawyers and often focuses on a specific area or industry, such as cybersecurity or banking regulation, and provides a thorough understanding of relevant laws and regulations. CLS by BARBRI courses provide legal knowledge applicable to a wide range of industries. It`s our way of keeping your career preparation and career advancement at the center of everything we do. To obtain a certificate in public interest, a student must: (1) complete at least 15 course credits selected from the Public Interest Law Certificate approved course list, (2) complete at least 150 hours of supervised legal work in a qualified public or governmental agency, (3) complete at least 50 hours of non-legal volunteer service on behalf of on-campus organizations or not-for-profit organizations. (Working with student organizations and participating in activities under the Law In Motion Services Program may be applied to meet this requirement) and (4) complete a comprehensive research paper analyzing a topic relevant to public interest law. The document should demonstrate the ability to identify, describe and analyze the problem and, if possible, propose a solution. The Center`s certificate program strives to educate students in the core values of the U.S. legal system to prepare them to advise and represent clients in all areas where issues related to the cause of social justice arise. These situations may include, for example, allegations of discrimination in the workplace, demands for equal treatment of gay, lesbian and intersex people, conflicting privacy claims in frozen embryo disputes, or objections to the location of an environmental hazard in a minority community. Description Without a prior degree or legal experience, most students who wish to become paralegals in the State of California must complete the Paralegal Certificate Course and the Advanced Paralegal Certificate Course© to comply with California Business and Professions Code § 6450.
