Please note that SLS lawyers have extensive experience in almost all areas of law. However, SLS lawyers are not able to represent students in court and will seek “self-help” when discussing a legal issue. For students who need intensive legal representation, SLS lawyers help the student understand the legal issue and prepare the student to select the best external lawyer with relevant external resources. Services are funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). Funding for the project was initially provided through a one-time allocation of $7 million from the 2018 Finance Bill to cdss to implement direct immigration legal services programs on UHC campuses. Recurring funds have been allocated in the 2019-2020 budget. UHC`s Student Legal Services (SLS) is one of the oldest offices of its kind in the country, whose mission is to help students solve legal problems with minimal disruption to their educational efforts. SLS focuses on accomplishing this mission by educating the student body about law and also giving students advice on how to solve legal problems on their own.
