NYU Law`s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Clinical Law Center provides students with unparalleled experience working with clients and communities to solve pressing problems, influence public policy, and improve the quality of legal problem solving. For nearly four decades, NYU Law has coordinated its acclaimed first-year law program, upper-level simulation courses, and fieldwork clinics in a carefully structured instructional construction of sequenced and dynamic learning developed by Professor Anthony G. Amsterdam, one of the nation`s most respected lawyers and law professors. The lawyer program introduces students to a sophisticated theory of legal problem-solving developed by Professor Amsterdam, Professor Peggy Davis, and other members of NYU Law School. Based on this model, students in the law school`s graduate clinics work with clients and communities on very challenging cases, projects, and transactions. The school has the following clinics: Child Support Clinic; Domestic Violence Litigation Clinic; Seniors` Legal Clinic; Immigrant Tenant Advocacy Clinic; law enforcement clinic; Securities Arbitration Clinic; and Refugee & Immigrant Rights Clinic. Legal Services NYC fights poverty and fights for racial, social and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. Our neighborhood offices and proximity locations help more than 100,000 New Yorkers each year. Our services are free of charge. LSNYC will never charge its clients legal representation fees. LawHelpNY lists more than 600 free legal services projects and organizations with their contact and admission information, as well as more than 4,000 Know Your Rights and self-help resources covering 16 areas of law. LawHelpNY.org is also available in Spanish. NYLS clinics offer students the opportunity to represent real people and work on real cases. Rigorous and rewarding, the clinical experience instills in students a sense of professionalism, empathy and expertise. The school`s wide range of clinical offerings provide students with cutting-edge practice areas including asylum and immigration, civil rights, family law, housing, law enforcement and defense, cyberbullying, seniors` rights, intellectual property, juvenile rights, legislative advocacy, mediation, post-conviction remedies, public policy and regulatory advocacy, transaction law, and more. Each clinic is run by experienced faculty and defense supervisors. Law school does not offer the complexity, ambiguity and dynamism of actual legal practice. To serve clients and communities as effective practitioners, each clinic requires students to master certain legal interests (e.g., family law, civil rights, or the death penalty), gain specific skills tailored to different practice areas (e.g., litigation, policy analysis, and/or outreach skills), and learn to work under strict faculty supervision (e.g., preparation for court proceedings and hearings, Writing briefs in appeal and post-sentencing proceedings and/or planning community education workshops). The clinic will contact you, but this method of taking it will take longer. A distinctive feature of our clinics is that the professors who teach them are tenured or tenure-track professors whose only professional interest is the research and teaching they conduct at the Faculty of Law. The faculty-to-student ratio in clinical courses is extremely low (usually one clinical faculty member teaches 8 students) to ensure students have the immersive experience that the best clinics should offer. In clinical and advocacy programs, students learn by representing real people with real problems. There are 29 clinics in total. Students can address a wide range of issues: immigrants facing deportation; minors accused of serious offences; and defendants facing the death penalty. In a typical year, the clinic recruits more than 250 students for clinical projects, represents more than 600 clients, supports more than 1,500 individuals and organizations with technical support, and offers more than 40 community development activities. As a public health precaution, the New York Legal Assistance Group`s Legal Clinic for Pro Se Litigants has temporarily suspended all face-to-face conversations with clients effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Limited legal assistance will continue to be provided, but only by appointment and only by telephone. During this time, we cannot be available for visitors to the clinic. Our clinics are a crucial step on the path from student to practitioner. Although most law schools offer limited access to clinical experience, each third-year student must attend a clinic or concentration for one or two semesters. The NYLAG Legal Clinic for Pro Se Litigants in the Southern District of New York is a free legal clinic staffed by attorneys and paralegals to assist those who represent themselves or plan to represent themselves in civil litigation in the Southern District of New York. The clinic, which is not part of or operated by the court, assists non-incarcerated litigants in federal civil cases, including civil liberties, workplace discrimination, labor law, social security benefits, foreclosure, and taxes. Pace Law School clinics give students the opportunity to handle real-life cases. John Jay Legal Services brings together programs in the areas of criminal advocacy, disability rights and health law, immigration and investor rights.

Students represent clients in litigation and transactions. In addition to clinics, simulation courses, and internships, NYLS offers students the opportunity to take a variety of other experiential learning courses and programs to support their development of valuable and practical skills. The City Bar Justice Center (CBJC) provides free legal services to low-income New Yorkers through various projects. The CJCB is also committed to providing self-advocates with the support they need to successfully protect their legal rights.
